Heres an early ‘half post’ for you….the rest of it will follow later 🙂
As narrated by Aara:
Three days left…before our next roadtrip. The packing never ends neither does the work (at work). I was officially tired.
I had a lunch date with Zoheb earlier on today…this man makes me fall harder and harder every time we meet. It was very clear to me over lunch that he didn’t quite like his sister, who had surprised him last night by coming to his apartment. He said “it’s just too fishy, she doesn’t even phone me and now she’s made herself comfortable in my flat!”. I couldn’t help but laugh when he said that! And I felt ever so thankful that Sahal and I didn’t have a relationship like that! Fortunately, she wouldn’t be cramping our style during the roadtrip as she was going to Bloemfontein until we got back.
I smiled to myself as I drove home. If my parents knew the hours that I worked they would come flying to Jhb and pack me and my things back to Durban!
It was almost 8pm and I was about 10 minutes away from my flat when my phone rang and I answered on handsfree thinking it was Zoheb…
Me: I’m almost home…and I’m fine
“For how much longer do you think you’ll be fine Aara Ismail?”
That voice…that voice..I knew that voice…and a chill ran up my spine…
Me: what do you want Aadil?
Aadil: aah so you remember my voice…I’m flattered
I didn’t answer
Aadil: pass a message on to your boyfriend will you…he’s protected you and your Nemo dearest but what about the rest of them?
Me: (what did he mean) I don’t understand..
Aadil: (laughing a sick horrible laugh) ok since it’s the first one…I’ll just tell you~if not Aara..then why not Zainab…if not Aara then why not Zainab (and he laughed again) if not Aara then why not Zaaaaaaiiiiiinaaaaaaab!!!!
And he cut the call…
Fear and panic filled my body…I suddenly felt dizzy. I grabbed my steering wheel a little tighter..breathe in Aara breathe in..I made a sharp u turn, spurring off a chain of hooting from the cars behind me as I changed my course…towards Zainab’s house and frantically pressed into my phone…
Me: (my voice trembling) Immy! Aadil called me now…he said “if not Aara then why not Zainab?” He’s going to hurt Zainab Immy!
Immy: shit…where are you now?
Me: I’m on the road…I’m going to Zainab’s
Immy: I’ll meet you there
I tried calling Zainab but there was no answer..not on her cell and not on her landline…
I threw my phone onto the passenger seat and drove as fast as I could…
Ya Allah please let Zainab be okay please…
The road didn’t seem to want to come to an end…my hands shook as I drove…Zainab is one of my best friends…I didn’t want what happened to me to happen to her…
A few metres away from Zainab’s house I could see red and blue lights…
My heart thudded violently in my chest as I parked my car and jumped out and I ran as fast as I could towards the gate..
Pushing past all the people who gathered around…
Me: move move!
All I could see was someone lying flat on their face and his/her white pants had blood on it…I felt myself go numb…
No! No! No!!!!!!
