Part 53- The truth-Aadil

I had to tell Nemo about his sisters engagement and I didn’t want to do it amidst everyone AND I didn’t get a chance to tell him yesterday and the day before so I had asked him to fetch me to go to Maariah’s and naturally he would have to drop me back home.

“So that’s what she told me…has she tried phoning you?..I asked him.

Nemo: I think she did twice

Me: and did you call her back?

Nemo: once and no answer

Me: *sigh* you should go, its your sisters engagement after all

Nemo: yeah a sister I don’t hear from and who probably doesn’t care

Me: look, if you don’t go then its just one more thing they have to hold against you BUT if you go it proves everyone wrong. Don’t go with any expectations but show them that you aren’t what they think you are

Nemo: (small side smile) will you come with me?

Me: errr I don’t think I’m invited…(scooping out another dollop of ice cream)

Nemo: nonsense( taking out his cell phone)

Me: what are you doing? (Mouthful)

Nemo: don’t talk while eating sweetheart (wiping the side of Aara’s mouth)

Nemo: Assalaamualaikum Mum

Nemo’s Mum: Waalaikumsalaam Naeem

Nemo: how are you?

Nemo’s Mum: I’m good son, how are you?

Nemo: I’m okay…Aara told me now about Ammarah’s engagement

Nemo’s Mum: and are you coming?

Nemo: ofcourse I am, I wouldn’t miss it for the world

Nemo’s mom: (slightly shocked) do you mean that…you’re really coming?

Nemo: (laugh) yes Mum I’m coming, I haven’t seen you all in ages

Nemo’s Mum: I’m so glad to hear that baby you just made my day!

Nemo: you mean that?

Nemo’s Mum: ofcourse I do!

Nemo: great! Hey mum would you mind if I bring Aara with me?

Nemo’s Mum: you don’t have to ask me, Aara is always welcome

Nemo: cool thanks Mum. Please email me or fax me the details, I’ll see you soon mum

Aara: that didn’t sound bad at all

Nemo: it wasn’t…it was weird and completely unlike her. I think I took her by surprise she must have been sitting with her friends for her to speak to me like that

Aara: I still don’t want to come…its like a forced invite

Nemo: so what…my invite is like a forced invite too! Lol ! And besides (arm around Aara) you owe me a day

Aara: heyy what is this then?

Nemo: this is two hours and (looking at his watch) 29 minutes

Aara: and its already half past ten!

Nemo: don’t dodge the question

Aara: Nemooo I’d feel so awkward amongst them man

Nemo: but I’ll be there…I’ll also feel awkward! Please come please please

Aara: (looking at Nemo) fine

Nemo: fine?

Aara: YES fine!

Nemo: good! I’ll buy you a dress

Aara: I have clothes you know..

Nemo: still..my treat 🙂

Aara: are you bribing me into coming with you?

Nemo: now why would I do that (puppy face)

Aara: don’t give me that look!

Nemo: you know, I actually wanted to tell you this some time back…I’m sorry for not being around as much as I should have on campus

Aara: ℓ☺ℓ! No you’re not!

Nemo: I am..I genuinely am…I wasted so much of my time on people who just weren’t worth it

Aara: aah are we regretting something?

Nemo: a lot of things actually…I don’t know what I was thinking

Aara: you weren’t thinking that’s what!

Nemo:I know…can I ask you something?

Aara: sure

Nemo: whatever happened to that Aadil guy?

Aara:(putting the spoon down and contemplating)

Nemo: Aara?..its ok if you don’t want to answer..

Aara: he tried to…*closing my eyes* he tried to force himself on me..

Nemo: WHAT?(Standing up) Why didn’t you tell me!!!

Aara: sit down please he isn’t here now..it was a long time ago, you know I was so hung up on him..and he asked me out one day…*silence*…we met up at Milky lane one night and went for a walk…just talking…and when we reached a spot where people seemed to be drifting away into the distance…he suggested we sit down…and continued talking…then he put his arm around me…I wasn’t comfortable at all…

Nemo: (clenching his fists)

Aara: so I politely asked him to move his hand because all I wanted to do was talk…and…and…he put his other arm around me and tried to…he tried to kiss me..I managed to push him and I slapped him…he grabbed my hair and slapped me…and it didn’t stop there…I can still remember the look in his eyes…*shiver*…because he came at me again…knocking me to the ground and trying to force himself onto me…I don’t know where and how I gathered the strength to push him away from me…and I kicked him really hard…he fell to the ground and all I could think of was “run!” I ran as fast as my legs could carry me and I never looked back…

Nemo: *punching the wall* why the hell didn’t you tell me!?!?!?!

Aara: you were the first person I called…”Sweetheart I’m kinda busy call you back in a few” was what you said before I could even speak…I was so numb I couldn’t even drive…I called Riza…and yeah only he knows and now you know

Nemo: you should have told me!! I would have f***** him up!! Why the hell didn’t you phone me again???? Did he hurt you?

Aara: a bleeding nose, a bruised rib and a few scratches…it could have been much worse

Nemo: flipsake Aara why why why???

Aara: you yourself said you’re sorry for not being there when you should have and you’re asking me why?

Silence.

Aara: it happened 4 years ago and 4 years is a long time…I should never have went with him in the first place. I was young and stupid and I’m grateful to Allah for giving me the strength to fight back when I needed to

Nemo: I wasn’t there for you when you needed me…

Aara: you’re here now..

Nemo: that’s not the point…*holding his head* you were always there for me…and..and I couldn’t even help you let alone protect you…and with the way you are and the way you’re so happy go lucky I would never have imagined that something like this happened with you…

Aara: its in the past Nemo…it was a horrifying experience and it took me a long while to somewhat overcome it…and I have..to an extent

Nemo: *anger written all over his face* I will find him that’s a promise!

Aara: and do what?…*sigh*…you remember Amreen Vawda?

Nemo: who’s that?

Aara: one of your “friends”

Nemo: err…o…yeah yeah what about her?

Aara: that night…Aadil told me ….it was payback for Amreen…

Nemo: …..

Nemo: he wanted to make you “pay” for me liking that stupid b****!!! (Punching the wall again)

Aara: he didn’t say more…and the next day he disappeared none of us saw him again

Nemo: (falling to his knees) is this why you…

Aara: it took me a very long time to put it behind me and no I didn’t send you away because of that. I know what you’re thinking…what I did wasn’t ‘punishment’ for you..i would never do that

Nemo: I’m so sorry…(Tears falling from his eyes)

Aara: so am I…(Wiping Nemo’s tears)

Aadil…my worst nightmare..after that incident I couldn’t possibly think of any of the good things about him. What he did was WRONG, no ifs and buts..I never dared to look at another guy after that incident…and everything was happening way too fast then…I didn’t even have the time to properly get over it when Nemo’s shit started and what a messed up time that was!

When I started working,it became easier to forget…I was always busy…I was sinking into a hole of monotony and routine…

We had our date nights and our fun times but something was missing and even though I put a very strong and fun filled image for the world to see..inside I was empty…

I was starting to get to know my best friend again…one who I almost lost

The days weren’t easy…nor were they pleasant

Until the day HE walked into my life…I pushed the thought away several times…too scared to get hurt again…and I joked and laughed and played it all cool…but something was changing….

Lovely Ladies- especially our younger sisters…everyone has a story to tell, a mishap, a tragedy…whatever happens, always remember that it is not the end of the world. Allah has given us a beautiful life to live. Please don’t throw it away over a guy. nowadays its become quite the trend for girls and boys as young as 12 to ‘go out’ etc. Things happen…and we cant change them, it remains a scar for life. Be weary of who you can trust and don’t go anywhere without telling someone who you know can save your butt if you need them to! While I’m not encouraging you to go out etc, it is a stark reality of our world today. Not everyone is as strong as Aara and not everyone is lucky to get a reliable and trustworthy friend like Riza.
